It’s a viral craze in Hong Kong…something that makes you smile in an otherwise frustrating traffic jam…and leaves you thinking “who, what, why?”.  Vanity plates!

According to the Transport Department, “…you can propose your preferred vehicle registration mark (PVRM) and apply to the Transport Department. Upon approval, you can bid for the vehicle registration mark via auction.  A PVRM shall consist of not more than eight letters, numerals and/or blank spaces.  After the close of an application period, the Transport Department will draw lots to select the applications to be considered..” In other words, if you are thinking of putting a personal stamp on your car, it’s a bit of a process and potentially could cost a pretty penny.
